ISLAMABAD: The police force in the capital is trying to improve its ties with the community and hence was adopting practices which can promote a police-friendly ecology.

This was stated by Islamabad Police Inspector General Khalid Khattak while inaugurating the Police Summer Camp School in the capital on Monday.

The IGP Khattak said that the Islamabad Police believed in practices which promote friendly police ecology.

He added that the police had launched its annual summer school in 2003 to promote a public-friendly image of Islamabad police along with a host of sports programmes and extracurricular activities
for students.

A number of boys and girls between the ages of four and 14 years are expected to participate in what is the 15th year for the school. There will be separate classes as well as lectures for them.

The IGP said that students will also be taught swimming, horse riding, martial arts, gymnastics, archery and crossing obstacles by trained instructors.

The IGP said that students will also be sensitised about the basics of observing traffic laws and personal safety tips. He said a `WhatsApp’ group of parents will also be created to keep parents of children updated about their day-to-day activities.

Khattak said that children are the next generation, hence building a good image of the police in their minds was crucial for strengthening ties between the two.

“The friendly attitude of Islamabad Police will be reflected during training in this summer school,” he added.

The IGP further said that the aim of holding such camp in the vicinity of police was to bridge the police -public gap apart from acquainting children with the police workings.

The Islamabad Police chief said that they would not tolerate any laxity in the affairs of the summer school and directed that proper arrangements for the school should be ensured.
