ISLAMABAD: With the monsoon season around the corner, the Islamabad Chief Commissioner on Monday directed all concerned officials to carry out a survey of low-lying areas, streams and submit the reports within three days.

He further directed officials to take necessary preventive measures where required. In a meeting to review monsoon arrangements and plans to deal with any flood-like situation in the capital on Monday, the chief commissioner directed assistant commissioners to constitute teams comprising of representatives of all related departments for the survey.

He also directed the Secretariat assistant commissioner to carry out the survey of low-lying areas around Rawal Dam, Simly Dam and streams and to ensure safety arrangements are in place in the event of any spillways developing. He noted that the spillways should be managed in consultation with the management of dams.

The administration was also directed to identify buildings where flood relief centres could be set up on an emergency basis.
