I never bought my shoes from Pakistan: Azmay Shahzada

Azmay Shahzada, a Pakistani shoe designer, talking on The Morning Show on Express 24/7 admitted that she never buys her shoes from Pakistan.

“I would buy the local kola-pori chappal, but the local shoes never suit my sensibility,” she said.

Shahzada works with her sister under the brand name Samia Azmay Shahzada that offers luxury footwear for women in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad.

The brand offers shoes that are made from Italian leather and imported crystals offering the range of both flats and heels as well as leather clutches.

“People do not understand that the material used in making a shoe makes a huge difference,” Shahzada said. “They cannot pick out the difference between a good quality shoe and a bad one.”

She added that a cheaper way is used to make shoe soles in Pakistan which apparently makes it look good. However, she said, her brand uses several imported layers for the sole which not only makes it look good but also gives it more comfort.

Talking about her business in Pakistan, she said that this business has not been easy in this part of the world. She believes people are resistant to change which makes it difficult for them to introduce new trends.

“It takes time to bring in a new idea and to make people accept it,” she said. “Sometimes, it even takes us years to make people accept a new trend.”

shazia N Sheikh | 13 years ago | Reply I saw the interview - what she actually said is that before she started making shoes she was only buying kolapuris from Pakistan. i remember that time when kusas & kolapuris were the rage. We didn't have the sort of choice we now have in shoe shopping. All of the zamzama shoe shops have developed over the last 6/7 years and these guys have been in it for longer. I remember Tariq road was where we'd go for shoes and they used to be leather - not the artificial leather stuff that is being made now. So kudos to this brand for making a beautiful value added product in Pakistan and creating employment!
