Catch the bromance between Modi and Trump

US President Donald Trump welcomed Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the White House on Monday for their first face-to-face meeting.

While Trump's relations with some traditional allies had a rocky start, he and Modi appeared to strike up an immediate rapport in their first meeting, exchanging hugs and compliments in the White House Rose Garden in front of reporters.



Here are some moments of the Trump-Modi bromance

Both Modi and Trump have been scrutinised in the past for their lack of consideration for personal space, it was not a surprise then when the two leader warmly greeted each other with intense hand-shakes and bear-hugs.

The hand-shakes not stop there.

Other than warmth, Modi also brought gifts to celebrate ties between the United States and India. From an original postal stamp issued by India in 1965 in the memory of Former US President Lincoln...

The Prime Minister also presented to the President a wooden chest with intricate inlay pattern that is a specialty of Hoshiarpur in Punjab.

Trump returned Modi's gestures with a guided tour of the President's residence quarters in White House including Lincoln bedroom.

Modi also became the first foreign dignitary to be hosted for dinner by Trump at the White House.

The two leaders did not let go of any opportunity to praise each other during the day long event - with Trump hailing himself and Modi as world leaders in social media.

"I am proud to announce to the media, to the American people and the Indian people that Prime Minister Modi and I are world leader in social media," said the president, inviting chuckles from the media representatives covering the press conference.

"We're believers, giving the people ... the opportunity to hear directly from their elected officials and for us to hear directly from them," he added.

Modi in turn made Trump beam by hailing his reputation as deal maker from his time as property tycoon. "I'm sure that under your leadership our mutually beneficial strategic partnership will gain new strength ... and that your vast and successful experience in the business world will lend an aggressive and bold agenda to our relations."

According to Trump, Modi invited Ivanka Trump to lead US delegation to the global entrepreneur summit in India in fall this year.

The press conference ended with Modi inviting the Trump family to visit India.
