PU employees approach court

LAHORE: Some Punjab University employees, through their counsel Advocate Muhammad Mumtaz Firidi, approached the Lahore High Court (LHC), complaining that Provisional Vice Chancellor Dr Zafar Mueen Nasir had not considered them for positions despite their eligibility.

On Friday, Dr Zafar held a meeting of the selection board. The petitioner argued that this went against the university calendar, apart from defying LHC and civil court stay orders restraining the varsity from convening a meeting of the selection board. The VC held the meeting to recruit the deputy registrar, deputy controller and deputy treasurer.

According to sources, both the court orders were received by the provisional vice chancellor’s office prior to the commencement of the selection board’s meetings. “Dr Zafar, defying both, decided to hold the meeting to cater to his favoured candidates,” said an official. However, a PU spokesman denied the allegations, saying the civil court had allowed the meeting as per the rules.
