Trouble-stricken 71st Punjab Games finally kick off with nine regions participating in 19 events for men and eight for women.
The Games were earlier postponed on four occasions due to non-cooperation by the Sports Secretariat. Funds were held back by the Punjab Sports Department, despite an announcement of a grant of Rs5 million by the chief minister of Punjab.
However, the Punjab Olympics Association decided to hold the Games on its own. “All the preparations have been finalised,” said organising secretary Idress Khawaja.
