Shangla police apprehends five suspects for raping, murdering girl

SHANGLA: Police on Thursday claimed that they had arrested five suspects wanted for the rape and murder of a six-year-old girl.

The girl had been raped before being brutally murdered in Besham village of Shing on Tuesday.

According to the police, Madiha Tariq was heading to a Madrassa on Tuesday morning when a suspect allegedly took her to his house where she was raped and then strangled her to death.

Her body was then wrapped in a bags and dumped in the street.

A complaint lodged for the murder stated that her body was found in the street. A subsequent medical examination confirmed that she had been sexually assaulted before being killed.

The police on Thursday said that they had managed to apprehend five people in the case. The suspects were presented before Shangla Civil Judge Iftikhar Ahmed who handed them over to the police for seven days under physical remand.

Meanwhile, Shangla District Police Officer Rahatullah Khan and Lieutenant Colonel Rana Hamad visited the family of the girl. Condemning the crime, they termed it inhuman.

The district police officer assured the family that the accused would be charged with under the anti-terrorism law apart from sections of the PPC.
