Gulf crisis: Parliamentary panel urges govt to stay neutral

Committee also briefed on PM’s visit to Saudi Arabia

ISLAMABAD: The Parliamentary Committee on National Security has advised the government to stay neutral in the crisis developing between Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

A meeting of the committee, headed by Speaker of the National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, was held here on Thursday.



Besides the Gulf crisis, the meeting also discussed issues pertaining to the national security and Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav, said the speaker while talking to media-persons after the meeting.

The committee was also given a briefing on the Prime Minister’s recent visit to Saudi Arabia, he added.

The opposition in the National Assembly had been demanding of the prime minister to personally inform parliament about the outcome of his recent visit to Saudi Arabia.



Prominent among those who attended the meeting included PTI’s Shah Mehmood Qureshi, PPPP’s Sherry Rehman and Syed Naveed Qamar, MQM’s Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, and PML-N’s Mushahid Ullah Khan and Zahid Hamid.

Advisor to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz and National Security Advisor Nasser Khan Janjua were also present at the meeting.

During its next meeting, the committee would suggest ways for stopping the activities of banned outfits on social media.
