The creative duo behind Kohar Jewel, Ahmed Shoaib and Danish Naveed share their success story and pieces that are extra special to them!

How and when did you become interested in jewellery?

Both of us have one major thing in common; we both have always looked for ways to express our creativity. Growing up around families that adored jewellery, we learnt to admire and appreciate jewellery design. We would accompany them to jewellers and propose our own ideas to make their designs better. Often, our ideas were not entertained for some technical reason or the other. Before we knew it, we were drawing and designing our own pieces and collaborating with local craftsmen. The appreciation that we received, motivated us to dive into this market professionally.

What are your favourite pieces of jewellery?

Our favourite pieces of jewellery are classics that never go out of style. Personally, we really like our pear and diamond combinations. This combination goes well with both eastern and western attires.

Where did you get them?

We designed and created them alongside our karighars.

Share a story with us about how you acquired one of your favourite pieces.

Our love for traditional pieces with modern twists got us working on our pearl maala. This will sound funny but believe us when we say that we went through a lot of history books exploring Mughal art, and watching tonnes of old classic Indian movies to get inspiration from the era. This was also a golden opportunity to hang out with the elder and younger ladies from and outside our family, including our favourite, Farah Talib Aziz, to discover what a timeless piece means to women from different backgrounds. We believe that understanding your audience helps you create what people want while staying true to your creative ways.

Is there any piece you are emotionally attached to and why?

Pieces from our first collection will always stay close to our heart as we designed them with a lot of love. It is true that all our pieces go through a rigorous process; from sketches, stone selection, to putting it all together and then spending hours with the karighar takes patience and dedication. Many times we were discouraged, and staying focused through it all was rather challenging. After a few months of this, when we showcased our first collection, all the hard work truly paid off. That feeling plays a huge role in emotionally attaching us to our first collection.

Is there anything on your radar that you want to get to in the future?

Yes! We have big plans that we are very excited about. Currently, we are working on a line of jewels that are statement, stand-alone pieces. We will share these with you all very soon, so stay tuned for more!
