Scottish family offers £50,000 to nanny to work in 'haunted house'

A Scottish family is looking for a live-in nanny who they are willing to pay a £50,000 for looking after two children living with their parents.

The candidate if chosen will be able to live inside their house, which the family describes as "lovely, spacious, historic property with spectacular views". However, there is also a scary part of this offer: the house, rumour has it, haunted.

"We have lived in our home for nearly 10 years,” the advertisement which appeared on a website read. "We were told it was 'haunted' when we bought it, but kept our minds open and decided to buy the house regardless.”

The mother of the family who wrote the advertisement did not hesitate while telling that many nannies have left before after experiences supernatural happenings inside the house.

"Five nannies have left the role in the last year, each citing supernatural incidents as the reason, including strange noises, broken glass and furniture moving. This has obviously been a period of great upheaval for our children.



"We haven't personally experienced any supernatural happenings, as they have been reported only while we've been out of the house, but we're happy to pay above the asking rate, and feel it's important to be as up-front as possible to find the right person."

The website company, childcare.co.uk, said they were confused if they should put up the ad on their website but were affirmative when they talked to the family.



“When we saw the advert we were stunned. Some of the guys at HQ were sceptical but after talking to the family and their previous employees we realised it was a genuine position,” its CEO Richard Conway said. “We have hundreds of thousands of providers on the site and we’re hoping that one of them will be able to help them."

Conway says his website had helped scores of families so far in finding childcare but this is the most interesting offer they have ever taken up on their platform.

“The family has assured us that no harm has come to anyone living in the house, however the nanny will have to have a strong disposition,” he said.
