ISLAMABAD: The joint investigation team (JIT) – investigating into the alleged graft of the ruling family in line with the Supreme Court’s April 20 judgment in Panamagate case –  has been interrogating Javed Kayani, who has appeared before the panel thrice.

Kayani was arrested by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) during General Pervez Musharraf’s regime in connection with Hudabiya Paper Mills case; however, he was acquitted after one year by an accountability court in Lahore after his investigation officer failed to provide any evidence against him.

Hudaibiya Mills reference: Why did NAB not appeal case?

It is learnt that the JIT – working under the Federal Investigation Agency’s Wajid Zia – summoned Kayani thrice and interrogated him thoroughly.

Kayani was said to be pressured by the JIT members – during his third appearance before the panel – to become a state witness against Sharifs. However, he has reportedly declined this offer and has presented before the panel verdict of accountability court which acquitted him.

The JIT had reportedly assured him that if he became a witness, he would not suffer any loss and would also be able to avoid the complexity surrounding the case.
