Women development dept sees highest percentage push of 89% in Sindh

Govt increases minorities affairs department budget by allocating Rs1.72 billion

KARACHI: The women development department remained a high priority for the Sindh government as the department saw the highest increase of 89% as compared to other departments, in the budget for the fiscal year 2017-18.

The minorities' affairs department too witnessed a high increase of 58%, with an allocation of Rs1.72 billion. This was announced by Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Murad Ali Shah in his speech in Sindh Assembly on Monday.

"We believe in equality. Our policies are not specific to any class, creed or gender," he said, adding that during the next financial year, the government will be establishing a women development complex in Karachi at an estimated cost of Rs62 million. In his speech, the CM quoted the founder of the nation, Quaid-i-Azam, and said, "No struggle can succeed without the participation of women."



"There are two powers in the world; one is the sword and the other is the pen. However, there is a third power, which is stronger than both and that is of the women," the CM said. "Last year, we allocated Rs604 million for minorities and this year we have earmarked Rs1.7 billion," he said.
