LHC seeks reply on conservation of blackbucks

LAHORE: Lahore High Court Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah on Thursday sought reply from the Punjab government within two weeks on a petition seeking directions for conservation of endanger species of blackbuck.

Ali Imran, a citizen, moved this petition to LHC through his lawyer Sheraz Zaka. The counsel for the petitioner informed the court that several incidents have been reported regarding theft of blackbucks in Bahawalpur district.



He said the Punjab secretary environment, wildlife department and environmental protection agency should be asked as to what remedial measures have been taken for the protection of blackbucks and to implement environmental policy 2015 for the protection of wildlife.

He said blackbuck was a protected animal under Punjab Wildlife Act 1972 and in the neighbouring country India it was also referred as an endangered species. He requested to issue directions to protect this rare animal.
