ISLAMABAD:
The registrar of the Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University (SZABMU) Islamabad resigned from his post on Wednesday after he was accused of maintaining the university’s bank account under personal names.

After accepting his resignation, the SZABMU Vice Chancellor Dr Javed Akram told The Express that he had Tribune appointed Prof Moosa Khan as new the registrar of the university.

Although the former registrar Dr Amjad Chaudhry had resigned from his position at the university, he will continue to be an employee of the children’s hospital at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) where he had been appointed as a paediatric surgeon.

CADD, HEC to probe SZABMU’s private account

The Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) on May 26 had written to the university to withdraw the charge of registrar from Dr Chaudhry and hand over his duties to some other official as the registrar was being investigated.

The Supreme Court has been hearing a petition over a joint bank account of SZABMU and Pims which had allegedly been opened and maintained by Dr Chaudhry and his wife Dr Noshela Amjad.

According to the petition, the account was meant for educational grants in the field of medicine. But the registrar and his wife allegedly used it for regular cash transactions. The savings account in the National Bank of Pakistan remained operational for around five months from February to June 2015.

Pims is considered to be the teaching hospital of SZABMU and the two are considered to be the same institution and hence a joint account was maintained for both institutions.
