Notification is subject to final decision of case filed against candidates

LAHORE: The provincial government appointed vice chancellors at the Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) and University of Sargodha (UoS) through a notification sent by the Punjab Higher Education Department (HED) on Monday.

The notification stated Dr Uzma Qureshi and Dr Ishtiaq Ahmad were appointed as vice chancellors of LCWU and UoS, respectively, for a term of four years. At the same time, the appointment of vice chancellors of the Punjab University and Muhammad Nawaz Sharif University of Engineering and Technology (MNSUET) remained pending.

However, the notification stated that the decision is subject to the final decision of a case being heard by the Lahore High Court. A petition to this effect was filed by acting VC Dr Rukhsana Kausar against both candidates, “Terms and conditions of the appointment of Dr Uzma Qureshi shall be notified separately,” the notification specified.

The notification also stated the provisional appointment of Dr Rukhsana by the Lahore High Court (LHC) ended with immediate effect.

Dr Kausar could not be reached for comments as she is on an official visit, arranged by the Punjab government, to Europe. It is pertinent to mention that both appointments were the same as previously decided by the Punjab government before the matter was taken to court.
