Meena Kumari's 1972 blockbuster Pakeezah did wonders at the box office. So, it's only unfortunate when an incident of this nature comes to light.

A junior artist in the movie, Geeta Kapoor was admitted to a Goregaon Hospital on April 21 by her son Raja, only to be abandoned by him later, reports Mid-day.

Bollywood actor Vinod Khanna responds to treatments positively and is stable

Admitted to the SRV Hospital for her falling blood pressure, Geeta's son was asked to make a deposit at the hospital. He went went out on the pretext of looking for an ATM to withdraw money from but never came back.

Despite waiting for him, the doctors at SRV hospital continued Geeta's treatment as her condition was quite critical.

"Raja got her to us, lying about him being an army officer and she needing urgent treatment. He was asked to pay a deposit and complete the formalities. He left saying he would get money from the nearest ATM but never returned. We had no option but to start the treatment as she was in a bad shape," revealed one of the doctors.

"I even sent an ambulance to their home to trace him. But the neighbours said the family had left the house that very day," he added.

The hospital made multiple attempts to contact Geeta's son Raja and her daughter Pooja, but to no avail.

After that, the Pakeezah actor was left alone with a bill of INR 150,000. In an interview with TV9, Geeta revealed that it's been over a month and nobody from her family has come to get her from the hospital.

Veteran Indian actor Vinod Khanna is reportedly suffering from cancer

Talking to the publication, Geeta said, "He used to beat me up as I did not approve of his philandering ways. He would give me food once in four days, and sometimes, even lock me up for several. I was not ready to go to an old-age home, that’s why, he planned all this. He deliberately kept me hungry and I fell ill. Then, he got me admitted and fled."

Reports suggest that the hospital has lodged a complaint with the police, who are now trying to trace Geeta's family. "We were ready to send her home, but the son refuses to turn up. We had no option but to inform the police," said Dr Tripathi.

Dr. Salahuddin khan | 6 years ago | Reply There is another side to this sad incident.Irrespective of which side of the border u live on, I believe that it is how u treat your children when they are helpless kids that determines how they treat u when u are old and infirm.. In households where kids are treated with affection and are taken care of properly, the incidents of abandonment of old parents are rare. It IS UPBRINGING that shapes your character. Parents who were either cruel or careless sow the seeds of hate in their children. No old age homes are required for seniors in household where kids are brought up with love and care regardless of the financial situation.
Johnathan Menezes | 6 years ago | Reply Bunny Rabbit- she should have gone to the old age home . that would have been better & (16) people agreed with this sad state of affairs in Pakistan as we forget our seniors to make sure our lives are better? How many elder abuse stories are happening right now, how come our media is too busy with not reporting this and also child abuse? we need to wake up its the young the the elders we need to monitor which seems to be disappearing in Pakistan?
