‘Mentally ill’ woman slaughters her sons

Officials believe that the woman’s mental state can be the reason for the murder

ISLAMABAD: Police have arrested a woman who allegedly slaughtered her two minor children in Islamabad. However, officials believe that the woman’s mental state could be the reason for the murder.

Officials said that Farah Naz had killed her sons, seven-year-old Zeshan and four-year-old Aryan using a sharp knife in their house in Barma Town late on Wednesday evening.  Officials said that the woman was mentally ill and it could have motivated the fatal attack.

After receiving a report, police arrested the woman from her house in Barma Town, within the jurisdiction of Khanna police, on Thursday. She was produced before a magistrate who sent her to jail on judicial custody remand.

A police officer told The Express Tribune that the woman had been receiving treatment for her mental issues. However, the official pointed out, the woman had not shown any violent tendencies prior to Wednesday’s incident.

The officer said they had also recovered the knife the woman had used in the crime. Though police have registered a murder case against the woman, they say it was unlikely that the woman’s husband and father of the two children to pursue the case.
