PESHAWAR: The chief of Peshawar police officially inaugurated a maintenance workshop for the police force’s fleet of armoured and other vehicles on Thursday at Malik Saad Shaheed Police Lines.

Addressing the media, CCPO Tahir Khan said the workshop has saved the police force money because several heavy Soviet-made Armoured Personnel Carriers (APC) vehicles, as well as armoured pick-ups and other vehicles, had also been successfully repaired and refurbished there.

“We have overhauled and repaired the engines of six Russian-made APCs and these vehicles have been deployed at Mattani, Inqilab, Khazana police stations and Central Prison Peshawar,” he said.

Khan added that 61 vehicles have been fitted with bullet-proof windshield and side windows. Thirty such vehicles have been deployed in City circle, 26 in Cantt circle, 16 in Saddar circle and 14 in rural circle.

“These repaired vehicles are doing a great job and I really appreciate the hard work of the police officers deployed at the workshop,” he added. “Previously there was no engine overhaul facility available for these older vehicles so they couldn’t be used because of broken engines.”

The police officer further said that so far 425 police vehicles had been repaired at the workshop.
