KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) took to the streets on Monday, condemning the arrest of social media activists and a raid at the party's social media cell in Peshawar.
MNA Asad Umar, a senior leader of the party, along with its Karachi president Firdous Shamim Naqvi, staged a protest outside the Karachi Press Club where they said that freedom of expression is an individual's right and the state cannot silence a voice by force.
Addressing the protestors, Umar said that social media has provided everyone a platform to express whatever they want and this expression is their basic right. The state cannot suppress the masses by arresting them, he said.

The social media team of PTI is its backbone and we will not tolerate the Federal Investigation Agency's (FIA) raids on our offices anymore, Umar said. The government should think twice before continuing such actions of political victimisation, he said.
We are not here only for our own party, but will condemn such moves by the government for other political parties too, Umar said, adding that they were also protesting for Dr Faisal Ranjha, who belongs to Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz's social media team.
The same FIA was silent on the matter of Panama for seven months, however, they are now busy arresting our workers, he said, adding that PTI rejected allegations that the party is involved in maligning the Pakistan Army.
