Ex-servicemen move SC, want Dawn Leaks report made public

Petition filed with PM and interior minister as respondents

ISLAMABAD: Ex-servicemen have approached the Supreme Court with a plea that the inquiry committee report on the Dawn Leaks issue be made public.

On Saturday, 17 retired military officers - led by Brigadier [retd] Arbi Khan - filed a constitutional petition in the top court under Article 184 [3], making Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan respondents. The petition was filed by advocate Sardar Ghazi.



The petitioners have argued that the probe report on the Dawn Leaks issue should be made public as “it is a matter of national security” and they, being retired military officers, have locus standi to approach the apex court in the context.

The ex-servicemen prayed to the court to order the federal government to make the inquiry committee’s report public and take action against the real culprits under Official Secret Act 1963. They have also attached several documents with their petition.



“Pakistan has been defamed through this incident,” the petitioners contended, adding that the PM did not order the implementation of all the findings of the committee’s report. The petitioners say that all findings should be made public so that the nation can learn the truth.
