Syndicate meeting to decide AWKUM’s fate on May 19

The district administration has approved to set up security and police check posts within the university

MARDAN: Over a month after Mashal Khan was killed in the Abdul Wali Khan University (AWKUM), the university and district administration have decided that any decision on reopening the varsity would be taken at a syndicate meeting scheduled for May 19.

The district administration, meanwhile, has approved to set up security and police check posts within the university.

This was stated during a high-level meeting in Mardan on Wednesday. The meeting at the office of the Mardan Deputy Commissioner was headed by the DC Dr Imran Hamid Sheikh, while AWKUM Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Jehanzeb, Mardan DPO Dr Mian Saeed, and head of the district Intelligence officers, AWKUM Registrar Prof Sher Alam and head of the all political parties participated.

The new pro-VC demanded that the DC and DPO ensure proper security on campus before they could consider reopening the varsity.
