By-election: PML-N leader to file 'review petition' against SC's judgment

Irfanullah Marwat criticises PPP for celebrating victory even before the by-election in PS-114

KARACHI: Since Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has nominated Senator Saeed Ghani to contest the by-election in the Mehmoodabad-based PS -114 constituency, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Irfanullah Marwat, who has lost the provincial assembly seat, has decided he will file 'review petition' against the Supreme Court's judgment to order re-vote.

"Even before the election, the PPP has nominated its candidate and is celebrating victory," Marwat said. "I have not yet received the detailed judgment, after which I will again approach the apex court [and] file review petition. I hope the court will give decision in my favour."



Earlier on May 11, the Supreme Court had dismissed Marwat's appeal, who had challenged the election tribunal's decision to declare his political victory void in July 2014.

During the previous general election, he won the seat falling in Mehmoodabad, Akhtar Colony, Kashmir Colony, Chanesar Goth, Defence View and Manzoor Colony areas. However, the runner-up Muttahida Qaumi Movement candidate, Rauf Siddiqui, challenged his victory in election tribunal, alleging that the polls were rigged.

"I had presented all the evidences, including videos, in which Marwat supporters were firing before the polling stations in Chanesar Goth," Siddiqui said, reacting to the recent development. He added that out of the total 92,731 votes, around 29,255 were forged," he said, adding that the election tribunal's decision was based on authentic evidences and the apex court has also upheld its decision. "We are waiting for further development and follow our party's line of action," he added.
