ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Businessmen and Intellectuals Forum (PBIF) President Mian Zahid Hussain on Monday said existing taxpayers should not be burdened in the upcoming budget. Tax net should be broadened through proper steps as there is no dearth of non-filers in the country, and honest taxpayers should not be penalised, he said in a statement issued Monday. He said broadening the tax net will generate funds that could be used to finance social welfare projects for which efforts are needed as harassing the taxpayers to meet revenue targets is not a good practice. Hussain said the issues confronting exporters should be addressed while the matter of refunds should be resolved on preference.
