Two-day book exhibition held at Defence Authority Sunset Club

KARACHI: A two-day book exhibition was organised by the Defence Central Library at the Defence Authority Sunset Club on Saturday.

The exhibition was inaugurated by MPA Mehtab Akbar Rashidi, who said that activities such as these help sustain reading culture. She said books are irreplaceable and the knowledge we acquire from them is unique as it is not available from any other source. Books refine and broaden human vision and outlook and develop the readers' character, claimed Rashidi.



The MPA also said that people must appreciate and attend such events for the love of books. A number of publication companies had set up stalls at the exhibition, which was attended by many families. Books available at the exhibition spanned all genres, from fiction, drama, satire, action and adventure to romance, mystery and biographies.

A visitor at the exhibition, Rashid Hussain, bought three history books. He told The Express Tribune that he is fond of visiting book fairs and loves reading. I was just passing by, saw that the exhibition was being held and could not resist stopping my car to check it out, he said. "Tomorrow, I will bring my children as well, as I can see that they have a great selection of children's books," he said.



Rehan Tariq, a class three bibliophile, said he usually reads during his summer vacations and had come to the exhibition with his mother to stock up on some good reading material.

The organisers had also invited poets, writers and scholars, including journalist Ghazi Salahuddin, Karachi University's Prof Sahar Ansari and poet Rehan Azmi, to attend. The exhibition will end today [Sunday].
