LAHORE: The Metropolitan Corporation Lahore (MCL) and the district administration have finalised all arrangements to make 31 Ramazan Bazaars functional in different areas of the provincial capital from May 24.

It was revealed in a meeting that the government would provide 17 essential items at market committee’s stall in all Ramazan bazaars at a discounted price. In addition to traditional mechanism of checking quality, quantity and prices of products, the city administration will use an Android App for enhanced efficiency.

The meeting was jointly chaired by Lahore Mayor Colonel (retd) Mubashir Javed and Deputy Commissioner Sumair Ahmad Syed. They directed the officials of all relevant departments to take Ramazan duties as a challenge in which they must succeed to provide maximum benefit to citizens. They underscored that it should be a coordinated team effort of all public departments.

“We need to dispel this impression that all departments operate in isolation. We have to ensure that all standard operating procedures (SOPs) set for Ramazan bazaars should be strictly followed,” the mayor said.

Market committee officials informed the meeting that a purchase committee would be constituted for the procurement of essential commodities to supply them to all 31 Ramazan bazaars in the city.

Punjab Industries Department representatives highlighted that the department has decided to install digital weighing scales at their kiosks to counter check weight and measures. Any citizen could weigh their products from these kiosks to confirm if the vendors were weighing properly.

Lahore Parking Company (LPC) officials said the company has deputed 174 employees on Ramazan bazaars duties for working days while 210 employees would perform parking duty on Saturdays and Sundays. The company had also made special arrangement for secure parking facility for shoppers, they indicated.
