Mashal Khan lynching case: Four more suspects arrested by police

Arrests bring total to 42 students and staff of varsity held by police

MARDAN: Four more suspects in the Mashal Khan lynching case have been arrested, according to a press release issued by the office of the District Police Officer (DPO) Mardan, on Thursday.

This brings the total number of arrested students, as well as, employees of the Abdul Wali Khan University, to 42. All four accused were students of the varsity.

The students have been identified as Saeed Khan Shankar, Sheraz Bacha, Shahab Ali and Zuhaib Khan. Shankar and Bacha were nabbed by police in Mardan while Ali and Khan were apprehended in separate raids from the outskirts of the district. The suspects were shifted to the Sheikh Maltoon police station where the FIR has been registered against them in the case.



Meanwhile, Ali Nawaz Khan who is the warden of the hostel, who also happens to be one of the key eyewitnesses in the case, has been seriously injured in a road accident in the city.

He has now been admitted to the Mardan Medical Complex for treatment. While a relative of the victim told The Express Tribune that the car had come under attack near the court's jurisdiction in a targetted attack, the police refuted the claim stating that it was only a car accident.
