Advocate filed petition seeking action for recovery of 'kidnapped' son

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) directed on Monday the federal and provincial authorities to submit their comments on a petition filed by a lawyer seeking action for the recovery of his son who was allegedly abducted by some influential persons in April from a village near Khairpur.

The SHC bench, headed by Justice Irfan Saadat Khan, passed the directions after taking up the petition moved by a Supreme Court advocate, Zakir Hussain Khaskheli, who maintained that his son, Nadir Ali, was kidnapped from his farm land in Mirwas taluka, Khairpur district, on April 22.

The petitioner told the court that Ali was working on his agricultural land when some people, who according to him were notorious criminals and had been backed by the province-ruling Pakistan Peoples Party, forcibly took him with them at gunpoint and nothing was known about his whereabouts to date.



"The kidnappers demanded Rs1 million and part of my land as ransom," said Khaskheli, adding that they also threatened to kill his son in case he [Khaskheli] did not meet their demands.

The petitioner alleged that PPP's Khairpur president and some other political figures were involved in the 'abduction'.

He said the police was not making any satisfactory efforts to recover his son due to pressure from the accused political quarter. "I am very concerned about my son's life as he is untraceable since the day of his kidnapping," he said.

The bench ordered the Sindh Rangers director-general, Sindh inspector-general, provincial home secretary, attorney-general and advocate-general to submit their replies on the petition by the next hearing, the date of which was to be issued by the court's office.
