KARACHI: There was a time when Shikarpur was compared with Paris but now it is facing major issues and these will be resolved at any cost, said Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah while presiding over a meeting to review the Annual Development Programme (ADP) of Shikarpur district.

Ten departments of the government have launched 50 ADP schemes for Rs2.07 billion in Shikarpur, against which Rs1.15 billion have been released and Rs485.236 million have been utilised.

The CM said the work on the drainage scheme in Shikarpur has been going on since 2005 but it has not been completed so far. He added that just the construction of drainage system in the city is not enough, while it must be constructed with proper width and at natural gravity. He directed Local Government Minister Jam Khan Shoro to personally monitor the drainage work.

The CM said that Cattle Colony will be established over an area of 124 acres. The landfill site, as identified by the local government, will be set up at Lodra. "I am issuing necessary instructions to shift the bus terminus at Sukkur-Shikarpur road," he said.

MNA Aftab Mirani and Imtiaz Shaikh requested the CM that the inter-road schemes that have been launched at a cost of Rs149.799 million should be completed. The CM assured the elected representatives that the internal roads of the city will be completed by the end of December.

The CM issued directives to the local government department to take necessary action and improve the drainage system of Khanpur city, which has dilapidated. The uplift of Garhi Yasin, Lakhi, Lodra and Kot Sultan was also discussed at the meeting.

The meeting was attended by provincial ministers Mir Hazar Khan Bijarani, Dr Sikandar Mandhro, Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar, Jam Khan Shoro, Imdad Pitafi and Fayaz Butt, Planning and Development Department Chairperson M Waseem and Principal Secretary to CM Sohail Rajput. Provincial secretaries, including Fazlullah Pechuho, Hassan Naqvi, Jamal Shah, Aziz Uqaili, Aijaz Memon and Ramzan Awan, MNA Aftab Shaban Mirani, MPAs Imtiaz Shaikh, Abdi Bhayo and Wahid Bux Bhayo and District Council Chairperson Agha Masihuddin also attended the meeting.
