KARACHI:

A four-member delegation of the Asian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) based in Hong Kong visited the Karachi Bar Association on Thursday evening.

Baseer Naweed, a former Pakistani journalist, led the delegation comprising Chung Hu Moo, Najma Sheikh and Hasan Ather. They had been invited by KBA Honorary Secretary Syed Haider Imam Rizvi.

They discussed human rights violations in Pakistan and cases of missing persons, who are allegedly picked up by law-enforcing agencies.

The delegation also expressed concern over the disappearances of political activists, whose bodies are later found abandoned.

They also exchanged ideas and solutions, including better legislation and general awareness of one’s rights.

The AHRC delegation informed the KBA that a bill has been proposed to the Sindh legislators to curb all forms of “torture in society”.

Rizvi assured the members that the KBA would help them get the bill passed.
