PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan has said enabling an environment suitable for businesses is one of the many achievements of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) government.

Addressing participants of the Digital Youth Summit 2017 at a local hotel on Saturday, the PTI chief said Pakistan has unique qualities as compared to other countries of the world. “It has four seasons a year with lucrative opportunities in agriculture sector and is filled with mines and minerals,” he mentioned.

Khan, however, regretted the lack of good governance in the country to exploit the huge potential. He said because of its unique qualities and a favourable geographic location, Pakistan should have good ties with all the neighbouring countries like Afghanistan, Iran and India.

The PTI chief advised the youth at the summit to set visionary goals. He said Namal University offers students belonging to the lower and middle classes the same quality of education that is imparted at Bradford University.

“I dreamt of being a test cricketer when I was only nine years old. I became one. I pictured myself being a world class bowler. I became one. It’s just about picturing yourself what you want to be. So now I picture Pakistan to be the land of opportunities,” he told the youth.

“We are the lucky country that has a diverse pool of professionals,” said Khan, adding that China has alleviated 50 million people from poverty in just 25 years.

“Hence, our goals must be aimed at poverty alleviation also,” he said, adding, “I want Pakistan to be a country where we don’t find people to give Zakat easily. Our country used to send Zakat to the poor in India.”

He said people remember those who work for the betterment of society. In the context, he cited the example of sufi saints Nizamuddin Auliya and Baba Bulleh Shah “who worked selflessly for the welfare of the people”.

Khan said kings have come and gone, but the world does not remember them because their dreams were based on selfishness. “A person working for such kings can't become great,” he said. “Such people might be educated, but they can't reach their full potential.”

Earlier, K-P Chief Minister Pervez Khattak also addressed the summit. He said the K-P government had signed several memorandums of understanding with China during a recent visit for establishing industries in the province which would also create job opportunities for the youth.
