China to invest in K-P: Khattak

CM declares exhibition a success, would bring jobs to province

PESHAWAR: An investment roadshow held by the provincial government in China recently has not only succeeded in bringing numerous investment opportunities in the region but has also paved the way for creation jobs for locals.

This was stated by Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa [K-P] Chief Minister Pervez Khattak while addressing a one-day industrial and commercial conference and exhibition on Saturday. The conference had been organised by the K-P Economic Zones Development and Management Company [KPEZDMC] and was followed by a brief press conference on China-Pakistan Economic and Employment Opportunities at the Peshawar Club.



During the conference, Khattak declared the recently held roadshow in China as successful where different departments of the K-P government showcased their projects. Apart from tying down numerous investment opportunities in the region, the K-P chief minister said that it had paved the way for creating numerous employment opportunities for K-P’s residents.



KPEZDMC CEO Mohsin Syed told the media that they had signed a number of memorandums of understanding during the K-P Economic Cooperation Roadshow in Beijing from April 17-18. These agreements were expected bring in investments of about $40 billion.

The major projects signed during the roadshow included Central K-P Economic Zone Rail Cargo System and Southern K-P Rail Cargo System [focusing specifically on the long-neglected southern region of K-P providing the infrastructural and transportation network for well-developed industrial hub in the southern K-P].



Apart from developing transportation and cargo networks, agreements were signed with CRFG to develop the Kohat Special Economic Zone and economic structure of in southern parts of K-P. Apart from providing employment opportunities to locals, the agreement would see the development of existing manufacturing clusters and fast-tracking growth in the region.

To develop locals to fill the demand for labour, Syed said that the K-P government had signed two agreements which focus on developing technical, vocational, and language and skills.

MoUs for Hattar Special Economic Zone Extension, Mansehra Special Economic Zone were also signed and would potentially bring in direct investment of US$700 million.

Special assistant to CM Abdul Karim Khan said K-P is gateway to CPEC.
