Promoting Azi Kheli: Buffaloes go on a catwalk

SWAT: In what can be described as a rare beauty contest of high class Azi Kheli buffaloes, was held in the Khwazakhela area to highlight their breeding importance. Hinging on the verge of extinction, government and local enthusiasts are trying to preserve the indigenous breed. The two-day event was sponsored by International Animal Research Council wherein around 200 buffaloes of Azi-Kheli breed were brought for participation contest. Advisor to Chief Minister for Livestock Muhibullah Khan said the Azi-Kheli breed of buffalo faced extinction and aim of this event was to create awareness among people about importance of breeding this beautiful animal. The owner of the buffalo obtaining first position was awarded with a cash prize of Rs75,000 while the second and thirds position holders’ owners got Rs50,000 and Rs25,000 respectively. Khan distributed cash prizes and trophies among the winners.
