The code was formulated during a meeting between RMC officials and unions of the city’s traders at the Chief Officer Khalid Goraya’s office.
The traders assured officials of the corporation that they would cooperate with the government in removing encroachment from the city.
The meeting further decided that the traders would cooperate with officials from RMC’s anti-encroachment cell in removing encroachment along Jinnah Road, Liaquat Road, Ganjmandi Road, City Saddar Road and from small markets in Raja Bazaar.
The meeting came after Rawalpindi Mayor Sardar Naseem had persuaded traders to cooperate with the RMC since the traffic mess in the garrison city had been worsening day-by-day in areas surrounding Raja Bazaar.
Removal of encroachment from the city areas has become a daunting task for the RMC’s anti-encroachment cell.
Owing to the severity of the problem, some people had gone to the Lahore High Court with a public-interest petition claiming that the authorities had failed to perform their duties in removing encroachment.
While the hearing the petition, the LHC had directed the anti-corruption establishment and FIA to probe assets of all officials related to the anti-encroachment departments in the cantonment boards and in the district government.
But the officials managed to obtain a stay order against the court-ordered investigation.
