The walk was attended by a large number of people, including school children and families, but the centre of attention were the sports celebrities who led the walk.
The walk started from DHA Sports Complex (Moin Khan Academy) and ended at the Defence Authority Country and Golf Club.
Speaking to the media, former cricketer Javed Miandad said we have reduced the Earth to such a poor condition that we have specific days on which we have to pledge to make it a better place.

He elaborated that every day should be Earth Day, adding that just like we keep ourselves clean we should also think about keeping our environment clean. Miandad said that Islam also preaches hygiene, which includes a clean, hygienic environment. We have gathered here for a great cause and let us hope people start caring for the Earth, he added.
Another cricketing legend, Zaheer Abbas, said we need to create more awareness in society in order to save our planet, which has been turned into a mess by our actions. He added that there is a dire need to educate the next generation about ways to keep the environment clean, which will be beneficial for their health.
Abbas also pointed out that the government should make it their priority to build more parks in the city and plant more trees.
Protecting environment: Students raise awareness through 3-D models
Talking about air pollution, former cricketer Moin Khan said we are inhaling poisonous gas as our air has been polluted with poisonous fumes. He said it depends on us how we maintain our surroundings and this is how every individual can play their part in making the Earth better again. He also said that awareness should be spread to everyone.
The event was also attended by DHA officials. Young students present at the event pledged to make the Earth a better place.
One such student, fourth-grader Muhammad Ammar said he likes greenery and learned about tree plantation and controlling air pollution at school.
