Mardan lynching: Police arrest another AWKU student
Five suspects presented before anti-terrorism court
Another student from Abdul Wali Khan University, Mardan (AWKUM) has been arrested in connection to the ghastly lynching of Mashal Khan, police officials said on Saturday.
According to them, Amir, son of Ameer Muhammad, was arrested from Tangi, Charsadda district when police raided the house of another suspect identified from the video of the killing. The other suspect, Uzair, had already fled the house, but his father was asked to tell him to hand himself over to police, they said.
On Tuesday, a special investigation team probing the murder arrested two more suspects. Tariq Khan, a student of AWKUM’s mass communication department – same as Mashal – and Ishaq Khan another university student were arrested from Sardheri in Charsadda, which shares a border with Mardan.
According to local journalists, Tariq was affiliated with the Pakhtun Students Federation (PSF), Awami National Party’s (ANP) student wing, and had worked as a journalist with them in Charsadda before joining AWKUM.
Ishaq was also affiliated with the PSF. However, Naveed Gigyani, the PSF president at Charsadda’s Bacha Khan University said Ishaq was not a PSF office bearer.
Both students were arrested after being identified in a post-lynching video which shows Arif Khan, PTI local councillor in Mardan,
congratulating the crowd for killing Mashal and urging them to take an oath to conceal the name of the person who shot Mashal.
Earlier, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif called upon the nation to stay united in condemning the incident and directed arrest of the culprits.
Journalism student, Mashal Khan, was lynched and shot on campus by fellow students and university staff members after accusations of blasphemy were levelled against him.

Five more nominated in Mashal Khan’s lynching case were produced before the Anti-terrorism Court in Mardan.
