FAISALABAD: A police official has been booked for blackmailing, hurling threats and forcing a woman to marry him in Faisalabad on Thursday.

Madina Town SP Muhammad Jamil told The Express Tribune a woman Shazia Akhtar lodged a complaint to the city police officer in which she stated that Gulistan Colony Police Post Incharge ASI Muhammad Azam was threatening her with dire consequences for not marrying him.

She added, “I submitted an application in the court for recovery of my children from my ex-husband.”

She said, “The court issued orders to the police to recover the kids and when I reached Gulistan Colony Police Post Incharge Azam for the purpose, he asked me to meet him alone in the check-post or some other place.”

Shazia pointed out, “Azam said he is impressed with my beauty and tried to harass me sexually.”

The woman maintained when she refused to comply with his demand, the ASI started blackmailing and threatened her with dire consequences.

Madina Town SP Muhammad Jamil said an inquiry had been initiated against the accused. “The ASI has been arrested and a case was also registered against him,” he added.

“The accused was put under suspension till final decision by inquiry committee which may lead to dismissal from police service if found guilty.”

He said the woman also provided transcript of her cellphone on which the accused sent her messages and also made a number of calls asking her to see him alone in the police post or some other place of her choice.
