PESHAWAR: Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) has intensified efforts to attract the locals towards honey bee-keeping business in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P). For this purpose, the authority is holding consultations with stakeholders. Most bee keepers in K-P and FATA were Afghan refugees, majority of which had been repatriated back to their homeland. To fill the gap created due to the repatriation of refugees, SMEDA has engaged stakeholders including the public, private and social sectors. In this regard a training session on ‘Honey Bee Keeping’ was organised at Karak in collaboration with the Parmakhtug NGO of the district. National Agriculture Research Centre (NARC) Officer Noor Islam Khattak trained the participants on the various aspects of the honey bee keeping during which the participants were told about its importance, the honey flora, bee species, and apiary management.
