Preparing a ‘Master Plan’ for Karachi is the highlight of my tenure as Sindh Governor, said Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan on Saturday.
He was meeting a youth delegation from the Punjab under the Inter-Provincial Youth Exchange Programme.
Despite being the largest Muslim populated city, Karachi did not have a master plan, he said.
“To form a master plan for a metropolis, that too, in line with international standards, was a big challenge,” he said. “In fact, it is now being replicated in other cities as well.”
This is Dr Ebad’s ninth year as governor, making him the longest serving provincial head.
During the talk with the delegation, he answered questions and spoke of the importance of cordiality and tolerance among residents from different schools of thought.
The governor also laid emphasis on a positive frame of mind for good governance, impartial thinking, and educated voters who can choose honest leadership. “The educated class is not influenced by a typical feudal approach.”
Praising the masses, Dr Ebad spoke of how the country dealt with the earthquake in 2005 and the recent floods.
He also lauded members of various religious groups who believe in Islam’s message of love and peace.
