However, the International Cricket Council (ICC) President David Morgan insisted that he had “no knowledge of any spot-fixing”. Kaneria and Mervyn Westfield were arrested in connection with a police investigation into betting before being questioned and released on bail.
“I’ve been aware of the potential problem at Essex for a little while,” said Morgan. “And I was made aware by Haroon Lorgat that those two cricketers had been seen by the Essex police.” Morgan insisted the ICC’s anti-corruption and security unit was on the case. AFP
