ISLAMABAD: Former Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) president Atif Ikram Sheikh said on Tuesday that continued shortage of water in the country was taking its toll on the masses; however, policymakers seem indifferent towards addressing the issue. Sheikh said that water scarcity was a bigger threat to our security than militancy as the country may run dry by 2025. “Pakistan may face drought-like situation in the near future if immediate and urgent steps are not taken that include containing wastage of water,” he said. “It is very alarming that our capacity to preserve water has shrunken over the years, while we have world’s fourth highest rate of water use.”
