ISLAMABAD: The body of a three-and-a-half-year-old girl who had been raped and killed was found near her house in the federal capital –the  second such incident to be reported in the country on Sunday.

According to police, the girl went missing on April 7 and the family lodged a complaint the next day.

The girl’s body was found lying in the backyard of her family home in Jhagi Syedan on Sunday. A post-mortem examination at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) revealed she had been raped and murdered.

“She was sexually assaulted and then strangled to death. The body seems to be two days old,” an official told The Express Tribune.

Industrial Area SP Hassan Iqbal said police were investigating the incident. He refused to share further details about the case, saying it could undermine the investigation.

Another police officer said it was likely that the child was assaulted and murdered somewhere else and then dumped near her house.

This is the third child sexual assault case to be reported in the federal capital in less than two weeks. On March 29, a nine-year-old girl was also sexually assaulted near Noon village. On Friday, police arrested the victim’s paternal uncle for the assault.

Also on March 29, a 12-year-old maid was assaulted and molested in Sector I-11. The neighbours rescued the girl, caught the perpetrator and turned him over to police.

Earlier on Sunday, an 11-year-old boy’s body was found inside the shrine of Qalander Baba in Peshawar. According to his father, the child had gone to a local mosque to study the Quran, but disappeared on his
way back.

Giri | 7 years ago | Reply Actual cases of rapes are lot higher in Pakistan than are reported. In many cases victims do not come forward or are threatened to not file case.
Libra | 7 years ago | Reply Only solution to curb such crimes is speedy trial and hanging in public. No other punishment. If police shows lethargy and supportive to criminals, such police persons must also be given at least 10 years imprisonment. There is no other way to stop this. Law needs to be promulgated in soonest possible time.
