Woman killed during failed kidnapping bid in Okara

One of the kidnappers was also shot dead by his accomplices

MULTAN: A young woman and an alleged kidnapper were killed on Saturday during an attempt to abduct the former from Okara District.

Sattan Bibi was with her mother walking home from a fodder field in Shahbore village when Amin, Abbas, Iqbal and Zahid attempted to abduct them.

When Sattan's mother started shouting, the men opened indiscriminate fire. Sattan Bibi and one of the abductors received injuries and died on the spot. The other two accomplices managed to escape from the scene.

Shahbore police have registered a case against five assailants on the woman's husband's request under Sections 302, 148 and 149 of Pakistan Penal Code. Teams were dispatched to locate the abductors while an investigation into the matter is ongoing, police added.

On April 4, the Supreme Court issued notices to the interior secretary and the Rawalpindi regional police officer in a suo motu case regarding the alleged trafficking of women from the twin cities to Afghanistan.
