Terror bid foiled as police seize explosive-laden vehicle in Chaman

Three including suspected suicide bomber held

QUETTA: The Quetta police on Saturday seized an explosive-laden vehicle in Chaman and arrested three people including a suspected suicide bomber.

Police said the terrorists were planning to launch a major terrorist attack in the area, adding that a team of the bomb disposal squad had been sought to dismantle the explosives. The vehicle, they added, was coming from Afghanistan.

On March 1, at least four people were injured in an explosion on Quetta's Sariab Road which targeted a security forces convoy. The injured included three Frontier Corps personnel and a passer-by.



In a similar incident on February 13, two people including a bomb disposal squad (BDS) officer were killed in an explosion near the overhead bridge on Quetta's Sariab road.

A security team was diffusing an improvised explosive device (IED) when it exploded. As a result, the head of the squad, Commander Abdul Razzaq and police constable Abdul Majeed, were killed and 12 others, including policemen were wounded.

Pakistan has been struck by a wave of terrorist attacks in recent weeks which have killed over 100 people in Lahore and Sehwan.
