The passenger coach fell into the cave due to over-speeding

QUETTA: At least nine people were killed while more than 30 were injured early Friday morning when a Karachi-bound bus fell into a cave near Lak-Pass, on the outskirts of Quetta.

Rescue workers moved the injured and the bodies of the deceased to Civil and BMC Hospital.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, the medical superintendent Civil Hospital, Fareed Sumalani said the hopsital was treating five critically wounded patients. He added that the hospital had declared emergency and all surgeons and paramedic staff were present.

Chief Minister Balochistan Nawab Sanaullah Khan Zehri expressed regret on the tragic accident and loss of innocent lives.

He directed the secretary of health to provide quality wellness treatment to the injured and provide all assistance to their heirs.

According to the local police, the passenger coach fell into the cave in an attempt to overtake a truck.

An FIR of the accident was filed and an investigation is underway.

Earlier this week, at least four people were killed when a speeding trailer hit a passenger van on the Indus Highway near Dera Ghazi Khan, according to police officials.
