Differently-abled kids awarded medals, trophies and certificates

Social welfare dept organises ceremony for announcement of annual results

SUKKUR: A special prize distribution ceremony was organised by the social welfare department for differently-abled children at the Rehabilitation Centre for Physically Handicapped Children (RCPHC) in Sukkur on Thursday.

The ceremony was organised on the occasion of the announcement of the annual results, during which position holding students were awarded medals, trophies and certificates for their outstanding performance.

Brothers Yasir Ali and Farhaz Ali clinched first positions in classes three and four respectively and were proudly showing off their medals and trophies. Speaking on the occasion, the deputy director of the Social Welfare Department, Sukkur, Abdul Qudoos Memon, congratulated the prize-winning students. "At RCPHC these children not only get free education but free lodging, boarding and pick and drop facilities," he said. He added differently-abled children get VIP treatment at the centre because they know that these 'special children need special attention'.



"Besides imparting academic education to these children, we also provide them vocational training, which includes tailoring, embroidery and woodwork, so that after completing their formal education they do not have to depend upon government jobs and can start their own businesses," Memon explained. He lauded the efforts of the teachers at the institution. "It is very easy to deal with normal children but taking care of differently-abled children requires special skills and patience," he added.

The deputy director of the social welfare department headquarters, Din Mohammad, congratulated the children on their success. Appreciating the loving and caring attitude of the teachers and staff, he told them, "Though you are performing your assigned duties, you are getting sawab for it as well". He said the spirit of the social welfare department is to serve people in need and, being part of the social welfare department, he tries his best to meet the expectations of the people. "Believe me, every person with a disability has something very special in exchange for it," he said.

The deputy director of the Child Protection Unit, Sukkur, Naheed Afshan, said, "Those working for the welfare of the differently-abled children are doing a tremendous job." It can be very difficult to look after children who cannot express their feelings like other kids but the teachers and staff of the rehabilitation centre take very good care of them with smiles, she said.



The deputy director of Darul Amman, Sukkur, Naseem said, "Ours is a tough job, because on one hand we are looking after the neglected segment of society and on the other people fabricate negative stories against us." We do not care about such things because we know that if we start addressing the allegations, it will become difficult for us to continue, she added.

Others who spoke at the event included the assistant director of Pakistan Baitul Mal Sukkur, Shabbir Memon, secretary-general of Sukkur Blood and Drugs Donating Society, Abdul Jabbar, and others.
