No Da’ish network in Sindh, says IG

According to him, some extremists are inspired by organisation but security steps have trumped them

HYDERABAD: Sindh IG Allah Dino Khawaja rejected the likelihood that the Iraq and Syria-based terrorist outfit, Da’ish, has established a network in Sindh.

"May be some individuals with extremist tendencies are inspired by that organisation but continuous security steps haven't allowed them [Da’ish] to gain a foothold," the IG said while talking to the media in Hyderabad at the inauguration of a reporting centre inaugurated at the Sakhi Pir police station in the city.

The threat that the international terror group may be making its presence known in the province grew after the terrorist incidents in Shikarpur district and Sehwan. "Some local terrorist groups are believed to be facilitating these terrorist attacks."



The IG said that some seminaries that are suspected of facilitating terrorism or promoting extremism will also be included in the Fourth Schedule list under the Anti-Terrorism Act. He added that a request has been submitted by the province's police to the federal authorities for the purpose.

Khawaja said it is not possible for the police to deploy personnel at all the mosques, imambargahs and other places of worship in the province. However, he said, besides the nine most important shrines that have been classified in category ‘A’ of security, religious places considered sensitive are being properly manned by security personnel.

According to the IG, female police officials will be appointed for deployment at sensitive shrines.



Talking about the reporting centre, Khawaja said that 50 reporting centres will be opened in the nine districts of Hyderabad division.

These centres will provide services like verification, character certificates and other documents required for job application or foreign travel. The citizens can also register their complaints about crimes or disputes at the centres.

Representatives of Hyderabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry and other traders' organisations, Hyderabad DIG Khadim Rind and SSP Irfan Baloch attended the ceremony. The IG also inaugurated a reporting centre at Chambarh police station in Tando Allahyar district.
