Rocket attack kills four in Quetta: police

QUETTA: At least four people including two traffic policemen were killed and 17 others wounded in a rocket attack in Quetta on Wednesday, police said.

Officials blamed the attack on Balochistan separatist insurgents who are fighting for political autonomy and a greater share of profits from the region's natural resources.

One of the three rockets landed in a square in Quetta, causing all the fatalities and injuries, Daud Juneju, the city police chief told AFP.

"Both the traffic officers were on duty, two passers-by were also killed," he said, adding that all those injured were civilians.

Two other rockets damaged a house but caused no casualties, he said.

Hamid Shakil, another police official confirmed the incident.

Intelligence officials said Baloch separatists were involved in the attack.

Balochistan, which borders Afghanistan and Iran, has seen a surge in violence recently, with the province suffering from a separatist insurgency, sectarian violence and Taliban militants.

Hundreds of people have died since the separatist rebellion broke out in 2004.

The blog explains how with imported technology and technical human resources ( not amounting to more than .05% of Baluch population ) can be used to transform Baluchistan.
Umair Mallick | 13 years ago | Reply It would be fair and right to remember Musharraf who had managed to control these rocket fires, blasts, blowing of pipelines, railway tracks etc. Where is Zardari, what Gilani and his administration are doing to help? Is it fair to leave people there in the hands of foreign sponsored terrorists who want to create instability and division? Balochistan should be given under army control, law enforcements should be reorganised, judicial system consolidated and local people should be given administrative powers and control over the affairs of state. Politics should be banned and religious extremists exterminated. We all love Balochistan and their people regardless of our local ethnicities Sindhi, Punjabi or Sarhadi or Siraiki..
