Dubai to have robot cops starting May

By 2030, robots will make around 25 per cent of Dubai police force

The first batch of robot cops in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are set to join the Dubai Police in May, officials have revealed.



Talking to Gulf News last week, General Director of the Smart Services Department at Dubai Police, Brigadier Khalid Nasser Al Razouqi, said the first police robot will join the force in May. Explaining Dubai Police’s aim to make everything ‘smart’, Brigadier Al Razouqi said, “We are aiming to implement many smart police mechanisms, including smart police station and robots, and adopt artificial intelligence.” He added that by 2030, Dubai will have the first smart police station which won’t require human employees.



Speaking during a presentation at the 11 Best Police Practices Forum, Director of the Future Shaping Centre of Dubai Police Brigadier Abdullah Bin Sultan said, “We are looking to have more robots in the future to handle policing. By 2030, we are keen to make robots around 25 per cent of the total police force.”

Revealing the police force’s ambitious plans to make Dubai one of the best five cities in the world in terms of security, Brigadier Abdullah revealed that under the plan for a security system to tackle the future crimes, a DNA data bank will be built in the country. “By 2030, there will be no mysterious or unknown crimes in Dubai and the police will have the biggest DNA data bank in the country,” he added.

A prototype robot was first unveiled at the GITEX annual computer and electronic trade show at the Dubai World Centre in October, 2016.
