HARIPUR: A police officer posted in Kohistan was arrested and detained for allegedly sheltering a proclaimed offender and attacking a police squad, police said on Sunday.

Kot Najibullah police said that Muhammad Javed, a resident of Jabi Baka village, had been on the run from police after allegedly committing a murder in 2013. On Saturday evening police received a tip about his whereabouts from an intelligence report. Acting on the information, a police squad led by SHO Sajid Farooq raided the house of Inspector Fakhar Zaman, Javeds’ elder brother.

The inspector reacted and allegedly attacked the police squad, buying his brother time to escape.

Farooq arrested Zaman and took him to the police station where he was booked under sections 353, 186, 216, 506, 189 of the PPC.

He was produced before a magistrate on Sunday morning for remand but the court granted him bail.
