Presidents confers civil awards on Pakistan Day

The President and PM confer civil awards while Governor and CM Sindh pay tribute to the founder on Pakistan Day.

ISLAMABAD:
President Asif Ali Zardari conferred the civil and military awards for outstanding individuals at the investiture ceremony here at the Aiwan-e-Sadr on Wednesday.

Prime Minister Syed Yusaf Raza Gilani, Federal Ministers, Parliamentarians, Services Chiefs, Islamabad-based diplomats and prominent citizens also attended the ceremony.

President Zardari decorated both civil and military personnel with medals along with foreign nationals for their services to Pakistan.

Over 217 individuals were conferred awards at the ceremony in which the President gave away around 120 civil and 10 military awards in different categories.

The rest of the awards were given at separate ceremonies held at the provincial headquarters. The Provincial Governors decorated 48 individuals in Lahore, 22 in Karachi, eight in Peshawar, four in Quetta and one in Gilgit.

The Pakistan Civil Awards are given in recognition to the contribution of men and women who rendered commendable services to the country in their respective fields.


The Pakistan Civil Awards were established on March 19, 1957. The announcement of the civil awards is usually made on the Independence Day and the investiture on the following on Pakistan Day.

The awards are conferred for bravery, heroism, courage and rendering of dedicated services with selfless devotion in human rights and public services.

President Zardari and the Prime Minister later joined the guests at a reception.

Tribut to the Quiad on Pakistan Day

Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan and Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah visited the Mazar-e-Quaid and offered the Fateha on the occasion of Pakistan Day.

They were accompanied by Provincial ministers along with representatives of the three armed forces, Deputy DG Rangers Sindh, Administrator Karachi and leaders of various political and social parties.

The Governor and the Chief Minister stressed the need to follow the teachings of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah to ensure progress and prosperity of the country.
